Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MedSurg/Tele/Oncology unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience, active CA RN license, and night shift availability with every-other-weekend commitment.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a MedSurg/Telemetry/Oncology unit (2W) with 27 beds (13 private, 14 semi-private)
- Patient population includes acute/chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients including total joints, urology, GYN, podiatry, general surgery, and potential stroke patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 for telemetry patients, 1:5 for MedSurg patients; mixed teams maintain a 1:4 ratio
- Remote telemetry monitoring using Philips equipment; monitor tech is stationed on a separate unit, strips are sent to the unit, and RNs are required to read, interpret, and co-sign
- Common drips include heparin; no cardiac drips on this unit; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP (per RT and MD order); no ventilators on this unit
- CNAs available based on census; house supervisor on-site 24/7; nurse manager during business hours; Charge Nurse and Break Nurse each shift
- Charting system: Cerner (experience preferred but not required)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every-other-weekend requirement; weekends for night shift are Friday and Saturday
- Minimum of 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage required
- No on-call requirement; standby for low census is possible with a 30-minute response time if called in
- Travelers are first to float; may float to other MedSurg/Tele units, the ICU for MedSurg/Tele patients, or the ER for MedSurg/Tele holds at a sister campus approximately 6.5 miles away
- Shift huddles held at 0700 and 1900 each day
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or APEX); pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Comfort with post-surgical patient populations, including total joint patients, is required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor (12 orientation hours total)
- Candidates must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
- A pass/fail competency test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Navy blue scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets must be navy; hoodies, sweatshirts, and sweat jackets are not permitted
