Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a step-down unit position requiring ONCC or ONS certification, chemotherapy administration skills, and a minimum of 2 years PCU/step-down experience.

Details

• Work in a General Medical Unit (GMU) that functions as a step-down unit caring for general med/oncology step-down patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, with chemo admissions reducing assignment ratios accordingly
• Required to administer chemotherapy via IV and perform IV starts
• Equipment used includes Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps
• Epic used for documentation
• Night shift schedule, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Every other weekend required; weekends are assigned by the manager/scheduler, with remaining days available through self-scheduling
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas, including an acute unit (AU) and ER, to care for Med/Surg patients
• No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active Michigan RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and either ONCC or ONS certification (ONC must be in hand; pending ONS will be accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/step-down experience required
• Oncology/chemotherapy experience required
• Proficiency with IV chemotherapy administration and IV insertion required

Additional Information

• Charge RN is not typically included in patient assignments, and support staff is available when ratios flex higher
• Block scheduling may be accommodated — include any specific scheduling requests when applying
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment without time off
• Any RTO requests made after an offer is extended must be discussed directly with the on-site manager
