Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float ICU/PCU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort working across all ICU and PCU units.

• Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital
• Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
• ICU patient ratio averages 2:1; PCU patient ratio averages 5:1
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
• Floating is re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning candidates may float 2–3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement is every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2+ years of ICU experience preferred; ICU experience required
• Experience at a large Level I or Level II facility required
• Proficiency with IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation & maintenance
• Respiratory support experience including BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilated patient care
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Wound care experience including surgical wounds with drains or wound vacs
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with IV insulin protocol adherence
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidate must be comfortable working across all ICU and PCU units, as floating is a core expectation of this role
• Hospital is affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and features advanced specialty care including a dedicated children's hospital and certification as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
