Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg IMC/Tele unit at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of telemetry or stepdown experience and heavy cardiac background.

Details

• Acute care setting on a 28-bed Med/Surg IMC/Telemetry unit (6N) at a Level II Trauma facility
• Heavy cardiac patient population: pre/post caths, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs, and procedural cardiac cases; general population includes CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow stroke patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios average 1:4–5 on days/evenings and 1:5–7 on nights (must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and Lasix
• Respiratory equipment on unit includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, Vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest PT (no ventilators)
• Telemetry techs provide 24/7 remote monitoring; a unit monitor is also available for nurses to verify rhythm capture
• Charting in Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 12-hour variable day and night shifts with start times of 0700, 1100, or 1900
• Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday required
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling is accommodated when possible
• Floating to other Med/Surg floors on a rotating basis; may float outside the Med/Surg cluster for 1:1 patient observation needs
• Agency staff are not placed on call; scheduling is done in 4-hour blocks and staff may be low-censused or reallocated based on staffing needs
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of telemetry, IMC, or stepdown RN experience required
• Majority of experience must be in a cardiac-focused setting
• IV drip titration experience required
• BSN not required
• Two professional references required for consideration: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years of relevant experience
• Former permanent employees of this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for a high-acuity cardiac and general medical population, titrating IV drips, and collaborating with a charge RN and nurse aides
• Charge RN carries a reduced patient assignment and serves as a resource for staff
• Nurse aide support averages 1:9 on days/evenings and 1:14 on nights
• Orientation consists of one 12-hour off-unit day and one 12-hour on-unit shift
• Any color scrubs are acceptable; clean and professional appearance required
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a different pay structure
• Previous travel experience preferred
