Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post Surgical Care / Med-Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience.

• Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital with designations including Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
• 32-bed unit serving post-surgical patients with diagnoses including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis
• Patient ratios of 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Masimo monitors with remote telemetry
• 12-hour day shifts (0700–1900), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within the region (Region 1: Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities) — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, drain management, wound care, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the unit (local candidates not accepted)
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Unit support includes NA+ CNAs, a charge nurse available 24/7, 24/7 phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7, and a resource nurse as staffing allows
• Remote telemetry monitoring with dedicated telemetry tech
• Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; contract hours must be fulfilled
• Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
