Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Acuity ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 1 year of ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a mixed acuity unit (4 South Clinical Decision Unit) at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU
- Unit consists of 18 beds serving intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients
- Neurological and post-procedural patient population including post-TNK, neuro IR procedures (embolizations, angiography), hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, post VP shunt placements, post craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, non-vented neuro patients with EVDs, continuous EEG, and neuro/spine surgery cases
- Additional diagnoses include respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological conditions, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio of 1:12
- EMR: Cerner; IV pump: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs & Resparray
- Bedside monitors and bladder scanner used on the unit
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may be required to like units (MS-to-MS, ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task limited to 3, or ER holds)
- 6-week schedule cycle
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes
- Proficiency with titratable drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Levophed, and Epinephrine
- Ability to read and measure telemetry strips independently
- One reference from a charge nurse or above from within the past 12 months required for consideration
- Date of birth (day and month) required for consideration
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide mixed acuity nursing care to neurological, post-procedural, and critically ill patients in a non-vented ICU environment
- Unit support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, dedicated educator and nurse mentor, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7
- New travelers to the facility and return travelers absent for 1+ year will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy are expected; specific holiday dates are not guaranteed off prior to arrival
- Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, excluding blackout dates
- Scrub color: any
- Free parking available on campus and in a parking deck
- Unit is in an intentional culture-building phase with a focus on shared accountability, process improvement, and staff voice
- First-time travelers are welcome with 2 or more years of ICU experience
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
