Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active AZ or compact RN license with night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care hospital PCU/stepdown unit serving cardiovascular and surgical patients
- Patient population includes post-cath lab, open heart surgery (2-3 days post-op), STEMI/NSTEMI, chronic vents, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, new BiPAP/CPAP patients, thoracotomies, and renal disease
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- Unit capacity of 14-16 beds (up to 20 with double occupancy); Critical Care service line with Hospitalists serving PCU patients
- Equipment includes Philips Cardiac Monitors, telemetry, Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors, invasive monitoring, Medtronic Pacemakers, Pyxis med dispensers, Zoll R Series, Sigma Spectrum IV pumps, and Mistral Air Warming units
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 3 shifts per week
- Two weekend shifts required per pay period
- Travelers are first to float; floating to ICU preferred, float to MS/Tele required — arterial lines and sheath pulls apply
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; minimum 1 year of PCU experience required
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation and IV cardiac medication administration required
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis, chronic vents, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing, and arterial/venous sheath pulling and care required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include acute care nursing for cardiovascular and surgical patients, including post-cath lab and post-open heart surgery care
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract confirmation; failure to pass within two attempts results in a 6-month ineligibility period
- A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
- Navy scrubs and business-appropriate hair color required
- 13-week contract with a 12-hour orientation

Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
