Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Arizona, requiring telemetry strip interpretation skills and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit on the 3rd floor of a hospital setting
- 49-bed unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry monitoring, post-cath, and total joint replacement
- Common drips include Diltiazem/Cardizem administered at a set rate (no titration required)
- RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift; monitor techs are also present on the unit
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
- Charting via Cerner (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Two weekends required per 4-week schedule
- Travelers are first to float and may float to the East Campus or PCU (if qualified)
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Self-scheduling is used with 4-week schedule blocks, subject to manager approval
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
- Experience with CVA, TIA, and total joint replacement preferred
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of one shift on the unit
- RNs must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% prior to contract confirmation; candidates have two attempts to pass
- A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Failing either the Relias exam or the sterile technique test on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status across all CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento, CA region
- Holiday coverage required for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day — travelers are expected to work two days and one eve, or two eves and one day across each holiday grouping
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue
- Charge nurses and a house supervisor are both available on the unit; nurse aides are also present at a 1:10–15 ratio

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
