Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a Level III NICU position requiring Epic proficiency and advanced neonatal care skills including management of extreme prematurity and complex respiratory conditions.

Details

  • 60-bed Level III NICU in an acute care hospital setting, organized into 5 pods supporting both ICU and Intermediate Level care
  • Patient population includes premature and critically ill newborns ranging from extreme prematurity (22 weeks+) through full-term, with diagnoses including omphalocele, gastroschisis, respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration, persistent pulmonary hypertension, TE fistula, diaphragmatic hernia, Trisomy 21, intraventricular hemorrhage, NEC, hydrocephalus, volvulus, intestinal failure, chronic lung disease, myelomeningocele, and seizure disorders — excludes patients requiring ECMO or cardiac surgery
  • ICU patient ratio goal is 1:2; Intermediate Level ratio goal is 1:4
  • Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • Floating within skillset is required
  • Epic EMR experience is required
  • Equipment includes High-Frequency Jet Ventilators, High-Frequency Oscillators, Arctic Sun cooling blankets, Tortle positioning aids, Alaris and Medfusion Infusion Pumps, Giraffe Incubators and radiant warmers, Stryker Bassinets, Kangaroo Pumps, and GE phototherapy lights and blankets

Requirements

  • Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand (pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state)
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Level III NICU experience required
  • Experience caring for neonates across all gestational age ranges, including those under 24–28 weeks, 29–34 weeks, and over 34 weeks
  • IV therapy skills required: administration of blood and blood products, arterial line management, central line blood draws, central line/implanted line care, starting and maintaining IVs, UAC, and UVC
  • Medication administration experience required: anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, neonatal dosage calculations, steroids, and surfactants
  • Respiratory support experience required: Bubble CPAP, HFNC, high-frequency ventilation, chest tube management, meconium aspiration care, nitric oxide (iNO), oscillators, oxygen delivery systems, respiratory distress syndrome management, ETT/NT suctioning, tracheostomy care, and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP)
  • GI experience required: breastfeeding support and breast milk handling, colostomy/ileostomy care, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, gastroschisis/omphalocele care, NEC management, oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tube placement and management, and post-abdominal surgery care
  • Neurological care experience required: lumbar puncture assistance, ICP monitoring, neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket), and VP shunt management
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card copies required for consideration

  • Delivers advanced, family-centered care for premature and critically ill newborns in a high-acuity referral center for high-risk pregnancies
  • Interdisciplinary team includes neonatologists, nurses, and specialists available 24/7
  • Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
