Description
American Traveler is seeking a Critical Care Float RN for a hospital-based role requiring Epic proficiency and flexibility to float across ICU, PCU, MS, and MS/Tele units on night shifts.
Details
- Primary float assignment is ICU, with the possibility of floating to MS, MS/Tele, PCU, and Neuro ICU/CVICU units within the hospital
- Patient population includes adults through geriatrics across a range of critical care and medical-surgical diagnoses
- Patient ratios vary by unit: 1:2-3 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in MS/MS Tele
- EMR: Epic (required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required (approximately 6 weekends over a 13-week contract)
- Floating to multiple units within the hospital is required
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred — references must reflect manager-level or higher supervisors
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- RTO is capped at 7 days per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
- RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4–12)
- Holiday coverage policy: if one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO; if three major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work two of them — major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Travelers must be away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of one full year before returning as a travel nurse
- No scheduling change requests are permitted — the posted night shift is firm
- Shift and schedule flexibility cannot be accommodated; candidates must be fully committed to the listed schedule with no alternate shift requests
