Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Oncology/Infusion position at an outpatient cancer care clinic in South Dakota, requiring at least 1 year of outpatient infusion oncology experience and Epic Ambulatory proficiency.

Details

  • Outpatient oncology infusion clinic setting with 32 infusion chairs
  • Medical Oncology/Chemotherapy Infusion unit serving a broad cancer patient population including solid tumor, GYN, breast, and hematology oncology patients
  • Nurses are expected to manage 5-8 patients per day with a maximum of 3-4 patients at a time
  • 8-hour day shifts, 40 hours per week
  • No weekends and no on-call responsibilities
  • No major holidays required; minor holidays may be scheduled when the clinic is open
  • Floating to other clinics within the Cancer Care Institute may be required
  • Epic Ambulatory used for charting; Omnicell used for medication dispensing

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota or compact state license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ONS Chemotherapy certification required
  • OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum of 1.5 years of total nursing experience, with at least 1 year of current outpatient infusion oncology experience
  • Broad oncology experience required, covering solid tumor, GYN, breast, and hematology cancers — candidates with experience limited to BMT or other highly specialized oncology only will not be considered
  • 1+ year of Epic Ambulatory experience required
  • Proficiency with chemotherapy infusion, chart checks, rooming patients (VS, weight, review of systems), and medication reconciliation
  • Must have completed at least two 13-week travel assignments — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include chemotherapy infusion administration, patient education (new patient chemotherapy, home care, precautions, and symptom/side effect management), and symptom management for patients on active treatment
  • Nurses are expected to self-assign patients to maintain patient flow and equitable team workload
  • Strong communication skills required; includes completing whiteboard documentation with every patient, notifying the charge nurse before sending provider communications, and involving the charge nurse in every patient reaction
  • Support team includes department leadership, charge nurse, resource nurse, CAs, scheduler, pharmacy, rapid response and code teams, and clinic physicians and CNPs
  • Departmental orientation is typically 3–5 days, subject to change based on individual skillset and comfort level
  • Time off requires manager approval
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning in a travel capacity
