Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications, with night shift availability and oncology or PCU experience.

Details

• Work in a mixed PCU, Oncology, and Med/Surg unit at a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital
• 28-bed unit serving adult oncology and trauma PCU patient populations
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 for PCU patients and 1:5-6 for Med/Surg patients on nights
• Common diagnoses include oncology (from diagnosis through remission) and trauma
• Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and Cardizem
• Competencies in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring are utilized on the unit (training available)
• Alaris IV pumps are used on the unit
• Charting is performed using Epic (experience within the past 6 months is noted during orientation planning)
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling available
• Floating required to same level of care (Med/Surg and PCU units)

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); pending certifications not accepted
• ONS/ONCC certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of oncology and/or PCU experience required
• Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience required
• Driver's license required — used to verify permanent residence is at least 50 miles from the facility
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Additional Information

• Chemotherapy certification is preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove nails will result to contract termination
• A pass/fail open-book exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
• Orientation is approximately 2 days (12 hours)
• Unit support includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, educators, and dieticians
• Hourly rounding is a key patient experience expectation on this unit
• RTO must be disclosed upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
