Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg travel contract in Smyrna, TN, working night shifts on a busy medical-surgical and ortho/spine unit requiring a TN or compact RN license.

Details

  • Located in the main hospital building on the 3rd floor Med/Surg unit, which includes a dedicated 11-bed ortho/spine floor within a 54-bed unit
  • Patient population includes general medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, post-catheterization (w/o intervention), lap appy/chole, thoracentesis/paracentesis, IR special procedures, stable traumas, psych medical hold, HD/peritoneal dialysis, CBI, and wound care patients
  • RN patient ratio is 1:5-6; RN/LPN teams carry a combined load of approximately 10 patients per hall
  • Unit is staffed with RN/LPN teams, PCTs, unit secretaries (until 8pm on weekdays), and tech/extern support
  • Equipment includes Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse ox, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes, bladder scanners, and a 12-lead EKG machine
  • Documentation system is Meditech
  • Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • At least one weekend shift required per 4-week scheduling period (may be split)
  • Floating is at the unit's discretion

Requirements

  • Active TN or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted); ACLS preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
  • Strong assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills required
  • US SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

  • Procedures performed on the unit include general med/surg care, post-cath monitoring, lap appy/chole, thoracentesis/paracentesis, spine and joint procedures, HD/peritoneal dialysis, CBI, and wound management
  • The unit utilizes Teletracking for bed placement, MobiLab, PatientKeeper, Inspire App, and Wound Capture technology
  • Unit accolades include ACS Certification, Hernia Center of Excellence designation, Spine & Joint Accreditation, Unit of Distinction Honorable Mention 2022, and Leapfrog Top 100 Hospital recognition
  • Unit is known for a strong team culture, experienced long-tenured staff, supportive leadership, and flexible scheduling
  • Grey scrubs are required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position
  • Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date
