Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post-Surgical Med/Surg travel assignment, working 12-hour night shifts with Cerner experience and a 50-mile radius requirement.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (Level 7 - Post Surgical) in a hospital setting
• 27-bed unit with a diverse post-surgical patient population including orthopedic (knee/hip/shoulder replacements, hip fractures), GU (TURBT, TURP, bladder biopsy), general surgery (hemicolectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair), and cath lab (post-peripheral interventions, dialysis cath insertions) cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (max 1:6) on day shift; 1:6 (max 1:7) on night shift
• Patient Care Technicians on unit — 3 PCTs on day shift and 2 PCTs on night shift
• RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips; strips are interpreted by a monitor tech on a separate unit and the interpreted copy is provided to the floor nurse for review
• Charge nurse present on every shift; day charge does not take a patient assignment, night charge may carry 2–3 patients
• Cerner EMR in use
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement; early dismissal (EA/standby) may occur during low census periods
• Floating on a rotating basis to other MS, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower-acuity patients as needed
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Proficiency with blood transfusions, wound vac changes, and PCA pumps required
• Ability to titrate Heparin drips per protocol required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• 2 professional references required (at least 1 supervisor; if permanent employment within the past 12 months, one reference must be from that employer)
• Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days required
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include post-surgical nursing care, Heparin drip titration, blood transfusions, wound vac changes, and PCA pump management
• Respiratory therapy staff manage breathing treatments and equipment (CPAP, BiPap); nursing applies High Flow oxygen as patient condition warrants; no vents on this unit
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedules are set with staff input and adjusted for vacations and holidays
• Holiday rotation may be required; holidays are split between two groups on a rotating annual basis (Group 1: New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve; Group 2: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas)
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator and 1–2 days with a preceptor
• Navy blue or white scrubs required; scrubs are not provided
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
• All candidates must interview directly with the unit manager
