Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position requiring a valid CA RN license, a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, and proficiency with A-lines, phlebotomy, and vents across multiple hospital campuses.

Details

• Float pool assignment covering up to three hospital campuses (La Jolla, Hillcrest, and La Mesa)
• May float to the Emergency Department Inpatient Overflow (EDIP) unit as needed
• RN will receive a phone call 2 hours before each shift indicating which facility they will be working that day
• Diverse ICU patient population including cardiac, neuro, general, stroke, medical, surgical, renal, liver/solid organ transplant, and trauma patients
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
• Schedule is set on a 4-week basis and distributed two weeks in advance — no blocked or self-scheduling permitted
• Cerner EMR experience required; additional EMR experience preferred
• Pulmonary artery lines and ICP experience preferred

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• A-lines and phlebotomy are hard requirements — no exceptions
• Experience with PICC lines, chest tubes, vents, telemetry, and IV starts required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• BSN preferred
• Pulmonary artery line and ICP experience preferred
• Must provide at least one supervisory/director/manager reference from within the past year on the relevant unit; a second reference within the past 2 years from a charge nurse, co-worker, or educator is also required

Additional Information

• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers — no radius restriction applies
• No RTO permitted within the first 2 weeks of assignment; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration and cannot be changed once submitted
• Candidates who have previously worked at UCSD must be approved by the facility prior to assignment
• Must pass a PASS/FAIL EKG exam (3 attempts allowed)
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Former UCSD employees must have been gone for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
