Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position across multiple hospital campuses, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, a valid CA RN license, and proficiency with critical care skills including A-lines, vents, and chest tubes.
Details
- Float pool assignment covering multiple hospital campuses, including facilities in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and La Mesa
- ICU unit serving a diverse patient population including cardiac, neuro, general, stroke, medical, surgical, renal, liver/solid organ transplant, and trauma patients
- May float to the Emergency Department Inpatient Overflow (EDIP) area as needed
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule is issued 4 weeks at a time and sent to the RN two weeks in advance; no blocked or self-scheduling permitted
- RN will receive a phone call 2 hours before each shift with the assigned facility location
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Required skills: arterial lines (A-lines), phlebotomy, PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilator management, telemetry, and IV starts
- Preferred skills: Pulmonary Artery lines and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- At least 1 year of acute care experience in the ICU specialty within the past 2 years required
- Proficiency with A-lines and phlebotomy is a hard requirement
- Cerner EMR experience required
- BSN preferred
- Must pass an EKG exam (pass/fail format, up to 3 attempts allowed)
- At least one supervisory, director, or manager reference from the past year from a relevant unit required for consideration
- A second reference within the past 2 years from a charge nurse, co-worker, or educator is also required
Additional Information
- Candidate must be comfortable working across at least 3 different hospital campus locations during the contract
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as traveling candidates
- No RTO (requested time off) is permitted within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration and cannot be changed once submitted
- Candidates who have previously been employed by this health system must be approved before beginning an assignment; those who have left must have been gone for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers should check position details for eligibility
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
