Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5 years of NICU experience and an active SD or Compact RN license.
Details
- 28-bed Level 3 NICU with an average census of 13–16 patients
- Patient population includes neonates of all gestational ages with diagnoses such as low birth weight, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, total body cooling, and feeders/growers — no ECMO or cardiac surgery
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:4
- 12-hour variable shifts available as 36 or 48 hours per week
- Travelers may work mostly weekends; no formal weekend rotation requirement
- On-call may be required for low census situations only
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Floating may be required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or Adult (Constant Observation only)
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Free parking available on site
Requirements
- Active RN license issued by or endorsed to the South Dakota Board of Nursing (SD or Compact license required)
- Minimum 1.5 years of NICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS; STABLE certification preferred
- Completion of a board-approved nursing education program required
- Experience with vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration required
- Neonatal resuscitation experience preferred (charge nurse attends deliveries)
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse with 1:25 ratio who attends deliveries, Respiratory Therapy, Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners providing 24/7 coverage, a 24/7 transport team, and lactation consultants
- Phlebotomy is performed by RNs; no IV/VAT team on site
- Patients requiring surgery are transferred out, as there is no dedicated Pediatric Surgical team
- Orientation includes a general traveler orientation plus 1 day and 1 night of unit-specific orientation
- Navy scrubs are required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply with 2 or more years of NICU experience
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning in a travel capacity
- Pre-approved time off requests are subject to management approval
