Description

American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care position requiring a GA or compact RN license and a minimum of 1 year of acute care experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 14-bed Med/Surg unit (Acute Care 4)
• Patient population includes admission hold patients from the ED, medical observation overflow patients, and discharge-pending patients
• Patient ratio of 1:5 RNs to patients; unit is staffed with both RNs and LPNs with 1 CNA on the unit
• Common diagnoses include patients requiring medication administration (IV and PO), blood sugar management, pain control, and basic discharge care
• Patients requiring IV drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, dobutamine, insulin, or vasopressors), inmates, patients with active infections requiring isolation, or PACU/MedOps patients are not admitted to this unit
• Heparin and Lasix drips may be present; RNs are not required to titrate drips
• O2 delivery limited to nasal cannula; no ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, or high-flow equipment
• No telemetry monitoring techs on unit; no telemetry strip reading required
• MEDITECH EMR used for charting
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts, Monday–Friday 7PM–7AM; unit closes Friday at 7PM and is closed on weekends
• Holidays only required if they fall on a scheduled weekday
• Floating to the Med/Surg unit is possible if census is low

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in an acute care Med/Surg setting
• Basic Med/Surg skills required; some cardiac experience preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include medication administration (IV and PO), admission database completion, blood sugar monitoring and treatment, pain management, O2 administration via nasal cannula, and discharge coordination support
• A charge nurse is present each shift and may also carry a patient assignment
• Orientation typically consists of 3 unit-specific shifts
• Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible for placement
• Any time-off or scheduling requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
• Scrub color requirement: Caribbean Blue top and bottom, white top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all white top and bottom
