Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of experience, night shift availability, and an active AZ or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit (4th Floor, encompassing two units: 4A and 4B with 48 beds total)
  • Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, TIA, CVA, and general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at a 1:10–15 ratio
  • Telemetry is monitored remotely by monitor techs on the 3rd floor; RNs are required to interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
  • Diltiazem administered at a set rate; drip titration is not required
  • Equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and nebulizer breathing treatments
  • Charting via Cerner (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation time)
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
  • Schedules are made 4 weeks out using self-scheduling, finalized by the unit manager
  • Every other weekend (EOW) requirement
  • First to float; floating may occur to the East Campus and potentially PCU if qualified
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
  • Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA required
  • Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
  • A driver's license is required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)

Additional Information

  • RNs perform telemetry strip interpretation and sign off on readings at least once per shift
  • Charge nurses do not take a patient assignment; house supervisor support is also available
  • Unit orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit (approximately 12 hours); Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited orientation time
  • Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day — travelers are expected to work a combination of 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day across those holidays
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • RNs must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
  • A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
American Traveler Job ID #P-692714. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Med/Surg Tele

Pros

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.

Cons

Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
