Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) night shift position at a Level I Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring telemetry competency and EPIC experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, 4th Floor East Wing PCU (stepdown unit) with 55 beds
- Adult patient population; pediatric patients are rare and limited to those 15 years and older
- Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and generalized weakness
- Common medications and drips include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on both day and night shifts
- Telemetry monitoring is a core component of this role
- Alaris IV pumps are used on the unit; mechanical lifts are available in every other room
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required, ideally to med/surg areas, based on highest unit need
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Telemetry competency required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity Health — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit is supported by CNAs, a charge nurse, an educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, and PT/OT staff
- Strong teamwork culture — success on this unit requires the ability to manage a busy workload within a collaborative team environment
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation on Friday; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure to pass will result to contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required; CNAs wear ceil blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- Holiday coverage is expected as assigned
