Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience, IABP and CRRT skills, and night shift availability.
Details
- 12-bed CVICU in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes AMI, CAD, and PVD diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:1 based on acuity
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Dex, Propofol, Dopamine, Neo, Epi, Levo, Insulin, Cardene, and others
- Respiratory therapy is available (not unit-specific) with access to vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and HiFlow equipment
- In-room monitoring only using Nihon Kohden system; RNs are responsible for reading strips
- Charting is performed in Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts on a 7-on/7-off schedule
- Two weekend shifts are required per pay period; scheduling varies based on unit needs and is at the discretion of Nursing Leadership
- On-call/standby required per contract (maximum 3 times per 12 weeks)
- Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to ICU, PCU, MS, and Tele units across both campuses
- Holiday coverage is required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Experience with IABP, CRRT, and fresh open-heart surgery (OHS) patients coming directly from the OR is required
- Must be able to titrate vasoactive and sedation drips independently
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
- Driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Intensivists are in-house; Charge Nurse and House Supervisor coverage available 24/7
- No nurse aides on the unit
- Impella experience is desired
- A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation; candidates who fail a second attempt may be ineligible for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento facilities for 6 months
- If traveling as a duo, each clinician must have their own vehicle and should expect different schedules
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Unit-specific orientation is provided (12 hours)
- RTO requests of less than 7 days are generally accommodated; holiday requests during the contract may not be approved

Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
