Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a mixed-acuity Medical Surgical Oncology unit, with oncology experience preferred but not required and night shift availability required.

Details

• Mixed-acuity PCU/Med-Surg Tele unit specializing in medical oncology patients, with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
• Patient population includes a variety of solid tumor and blood cancer diagnoses with a high-acuity profile
• Nurse-to-patient ratio targets 1:4-5, though may vary based on unit needs
• Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanner, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Charting/monitoring performed in a telemetry-integrated environment
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Self-schedule request system used prior to finalized scheduling; shift assignments (days, nights, or rotating) are reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
• Weekend shifts are variable
• Floating required to units of equivalent or lower acuity
• First week of orientation is Mon–Fri day shift; second week is 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS (BCLS) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg or oncology RN experience preferred; oncology experience is not required
• Chemotherapy administration competency not required
• Pediatric experience not required
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained

Additional Information

• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Chemotherapy training is available — candidates interested in professional development may be sent to an on-site 2-day chemo course
• Pediatric patients are occasionally present on the unit but are extremely rare and are typically managed by permanent staff
• No break required between assignments when changing representation at this facility (exception: Sterile Processing Techs require a 30-day break)
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
