Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a SICU/CVICU position requiring a minimum of 3 years of experience, Cerner proficiency, and hands-on experience recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Surgical/Cardiovascular ICU (SICU/CVICU)
- 10-bed unit focused on CV and CT patients, including general medical and surgical ICU cases
- Patient population includes TAVR, Impella, IABP, fresh heart recovery from OR, lumbar drains, Swan-Ganz catheters, STEMI, AAA, hypothermia, and sepsis; no CRRT
- Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2
- Ventilators used: Draeger, Hamilton G5, Galileo, and LVT transport vent
- Hemodynamic monitoring via Philips central monitors at the nursing station and hardwired in each room; Omnicell medication dispensing
- EMR: Cerner (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required; additional weekends possible but rare based on unit needs
- First to float; floating limited to other ICUs or ER for inpatient ICU holds
- Charge nurse and resource nurse available 24/7; intensivist in-house 7 AM–5 PM, on-call after hours
- RT and pharmacy (including Omnicell) available 24/7; no IV team on unit
- No nurse aides/techs, but patient care support staff, unit clerks, and secretaries are available for room setup and call light support
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (all must be active, no pending): BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
- CCRN preferred
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
- Experience recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR within the past 6 months required
- General medical and surgical ICU experience required in addition to CVICU experience
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) must be passed before an offer can be confirmed
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- High-acuity, fast-paced unit requiring flexibility — patient assignments can change at any time during a shift
- Experience with TAVR, Impella, IABP, lumbar drains, Swan-Ganz, and manual hemodynamic monitoring is preferred
- Orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor; all MyJourney modules must be completed prior to arrival — no exceptions
- A pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Scrubs must be navy blue; scrub jackets and undershirts must be navy, white, or black
- Self-scheduling is not available; time off requests should be submitted prior to the start of the contract — requests made after the assignment begins are subject to manager approval
- Holiday coverage required: 2 out of 3 major winter holidays; other holidays fall into the permanent staff rotation as needed
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
