Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a comprehensive cancer center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity PCU or higher experience and an OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a comprehensive cancer center with 318 acute care beds across specialized inpatient oncology units (36 beds per unit)
- Units are specialized by cancer diagnosis, including BMT, Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare
- Floating required across MedSurg and PCU Oncology units
- PCU staffing ratio is 1:3, up to 1:4 with mixed acuity; Med/Surg Tele is ideally 1:4, up to 1:5
- Primary shift is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); day/night rotating scheduling is also available depending on unit needs
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling requests are submitted for consideration prior to the final schedule being posted; scheduling periods are reviewed every 4 weeks
- 16-week contract
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of high-acuity PCU-level or higher nursing experience required
- Oncology experience is preferred but not required
- 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Orientation consists of the first week Mon–Fri on day shift, followed by 5 bedside orientation shifts across weeks 2 and 3, then independent practice
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility do not require a 30-day break between assignments to change representation

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
