Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at an acute care hospital in Washington, requiring a minimum of 2 years of LDRP experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care hospital Birthing Center with 34 total L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
  • Unit averages 150–180 births per month
  • Patient population includes high-risk cases (33+ weeks gestation), preeclampsia, diabetic, psych/social, and positive elicit substance use
  • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for L&D and 1:3–4 for couplets
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
  • EFM system used is Centricity Perinatal; PACU monitoring after C-section is available on unit
  • EMR is Epic; an 8-hour Epic orientation class is included
  • Schedule is nights, three 12-hour shifts per week (3x12s)
  • Weekend requirement is every other weekend; nights fall on Friday and Saturday
  • Block scheduling is available when requested
  • Standby/on-call requirement with a 45-minute response time when placed on standby
  • Floating is limited within the department (Labor, Mother Baby, and Postpartum); no floating to NICU or outside the department

Requirements

  • Active WA state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NRP — all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered if they have extensive prior travel nursing experience
  • Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
  • Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning newborns
  • Must have Mother Baby/Postpartum competencies including routine couplet care and attending low-risk deliveries
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Provide high-risk L&D nursing care including titrating Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin drips, circulating for C-sections, and transitioning newborns
  • Travelers are also expected to function in Postpartum with routine mother and baby competencies and to attend low-risk deliveries
  • Unit is supported by a free charge nurse on both shifts, one surgical tech available 24/7, and a patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
  • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, NNP in the nursery, and OB anesthesia provider with a call room on the unit
  • Orientation includes an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2–3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility; a locker is also provided
  • Holiday coverage is required on a rotating basis with permanent staff
  • The unit manager actively provides feedback and expects travelers to be open and adaptable to unit workflows, policies, and procedures
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
