Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active NE or Compact RN license.
Details
- Fast-paced Med/Surg ICU unit within a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
- 34-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric patients (15+) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, cancer-specific surgeries, and psych/OD
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 (ICU), 1:4-5 (PCU), and 1:5-6 (Med/Surg)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Procedures and monitoring include CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, CRRT, Impella, balloon pump, and Thermoguard hypothermia protocol — training available for select procedures
- Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
- Telemetry monitoring via Draeger with centralized monitoring — RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac strips
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830
- Schedule is manager-assigned based on unit needs
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays, or every other, based on unit needs
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact RN license, fully active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Interview with unit leadership is required
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure to pass will result to contract termination
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- Unit is staffed with a charge nurse on each shift (attends RRTs and Codes) and patient care techs at a 1:18 ratio
- Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove will result in contract termination
