Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Float Pool Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and proficiency in cardiac drips.
Details
- Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units within the hospital
- Each Med/Surg unit has between 20–36 beds
- General medical/surgical and telemetry patient population
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
- 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float requirement: travelers will rotate to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
- No on-call responsibilities
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; vital signs: VS3 monitors; glucose: Nova Stat Strips
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA state or Compact license required
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac drips required, including insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to heart rate
- Skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use
- Level 1 Trauma and academic teaching hospital experience preferred
- Med/Surg certification is a plus
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Level 1 Trauma designated, academic teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, a Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries (on-unit 7A–11P, house-wide after), charge nurses, discharge nurses, a resource team, a PICC team, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalists 24/7, and intensivists 24/7
- RNs are responsible for drawing blood from CVLs; most units use lab collect phlebotomy for other draws
- Travelers are expected to cover 75% of assigned holidays
- Scrub color requirement: Navy blue for RNs
- Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and local travelers receive the same rate
