Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position in Salem, VA, requiring 2-3 years of ER experience, prior travel assignments, and a VA or compact RN license.
Details
- Works in a 27-bed Emergency Department
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Patient ratio of 4-6:1, with experience at 5:1 ratios preferred
- Staffing structure includes 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, and 2-3 medics on nights
- Common procedures include RSI, sepsis interventions, stroke protocol with tPA administration, central line placement, psychiatric patient care, and EMTALA transfers
- EMR: Meditech
- No floating required
- No on-call requirements
- Four weekend shifts (Friday or Saturday for nights) per four-week scheduling period
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI (or approved equivalent such as SAMA, MAB, or ACPMA), and NIH Stroke Scale
- Preferred certifications: ENPC, NRP
- Minimum 2-3 years of ER experience required
- Minimum 2-3 completed travel assignments required
- Experience in high-acuity, high-volume, fast-paced ERs preferred
- All certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Scrub color: navy blue or white
- Team-oriented, relaxed, and friendly personality is a strong fit for this unit

Very few units & nurses will assist they cna’s but for the most part they don’t. Staff leave linen bags laying around & director have not done nothing bout it. Also some nights it’s limited supplies
