Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mother Baby/Birthing Center position requiring a minimum of 3 years of L&D experience, including C-section circulation and recovery, with night shift availability and every other weekend commitment.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting within a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility holding Advanced Perinatal Care Certification
- Birthing Center includes 6 private L&D suites with private bathrooms and showers, a 4-bed OB Emergency Department, and 11 private postpartum rooms
- Facility averages approximately 1,050 births per year with 3,000+ OB ED and outpatient visits annually
- High-risk OB patient population beginning at 25 weeks gestation (NICU-dependent); no in-house MFM but full medical management capabilities with referral support
- L&D nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines (1:2); Mother Baby ratio is 1:4 couplets
- EMR: Epic
- Fetal heart monitoring system: Centricity FHM
- Cross-coverage floating between the L&D and Mother Baby units is expected
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Every other weekend required; holiday participation required
- Travelers are not eligible for call but may pick up open shifts
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NRP
- Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required; Mother Baby experience of at least 1 year is acceptable
- C-section experience required — must be able to circulate and recover
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any background hits must be disclosed at the time of consideration
- 2 supervisor/peer references required (1 supervisor, 1 peer or additional supervisor); if the candidate worked a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent employees or travelers who worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to return; this applies cumulatively — travelers who have worked at WVU facilities for a combined total of one year must also take a 2-year break before reapplying
- Orientation consists of 1 onboarding shift and 1 precepted 12-hour floor orientation shift
- OB Hospitalist is in-house 24/7; Neonatology support (MD/APP) is available 24/7
- OB techs assist with circulation, recovery, and transfers to postpartum
- Charge nurse coverage on each unit 24/7 (charge nurses also take patient assignments)
- Pharmacy is available 24/7 with Omnicell; RT is available 24/7; no IV team on-site
- Telemetry monitoring is available on the floor and monitored remotely in the Telemetry room
- Scrubs are provided for L&D; navy scrubs are required for the Mother Baby unit
- Facility offers additional resources including lactation consultants, an infant security system (Cuddles), and a family-centered care approach
- Facility is certified by Cribs for Kids as a National Safe Sleep Hospital and participates in the YES to Safe Sleep for Babies program
