Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro Telemetry position requiring BLS and NIHSS certifications, with night shift availability and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 25-bed Med/Surg Telemetry Neuro unit (4th Floor North)
• Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6; CNAs/patient care techs available at a 1:10–20 ratio
• Tele techs on unit to interpret strips; RNs are expected to have general telemetry awareness
• RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also used
• Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Every other weekend required
• 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Med/Surg or Telemetry experience required
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility; those who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsible for managing multiple admissions and discharges within a single shift; success on this unit requires strong organizational skills, good attendance, and a team-oriented attitude
• Unit serves a diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and patient responsiveness
• Orientation consists of 2 days of unit/department-specific training, followed by a pass/fail open-book skills exam on the final day of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• A limited amount of block scheduling may be approved
