Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring prior travel experience and demonstrated IV drip management skills.

Details

• Cardiac Telemetry unit in a hospital setting with 32 beds and a 1:5–6 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Patient population includes adults to geriatrics with diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, stable arrhythmias (A-Fib, SVT, Bradycardia), COPD, pulmonary edema, PE, DVT, DKA, post-cardiac cath, and surgical overflow (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
• Unit serves as overflow for IMCU and occasional ortho or CVA patients; overflow patients are transferred to appropriate units as soon as possible
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend requirement is typically every other weekend, with permanent staff scheduled first and travelers filling in remaining gaps
• Floating within the facility and within scope of practice as needed
• On-call is rare with a 2-hour response time required
• EMR: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, Pyxis medication dispensing system, SBAR communication framework

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of cardiac telemetry nursing experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Demonstrated experience managing cardiac drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, and Nitroglycerin
• Experience with diuretics (Bumex, Lasix), anticoagulants (Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin), and insulin drips required
• Basic arrhythmia knowledge and arrhythmia management skills required
• Experience with TR Bands and cardioversion required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) highly preferred

Additional Information

• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• RTO maximum of 7 days per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
• If one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO permitted; if three major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler must work two and may request one holiday off for approval
• Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
• No scheduling change requests or alternate shift requests are accepted; the posted night shift is firm
• Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for at least one full year before returning as a traveler
• Local candidates are accepted for this position
• Full compliance must be completed on time; delays may result in a two-week pushback due to a bi-weekly orientation schedule
