Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a community hospital in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 18 months of PCU experience and a willingness to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

• Work in a 33-bed Progressive Care Unit within a 58-bed community hospital with no trauma designation
• Common patient diagnoses include stroke R/O, pneumonia, cellulitis, failure to thrive, altered mental status, chest pain R/O, A-fib, and COPD
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–1:6
• Specialized procedures include tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitoring: Phillips Telemetry
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating is required across Region 3 facilities — Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — within scope of practice; candidates unwilling to float should not apply
• Travel time between facilities during mid-shift floats is compensated

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience required: tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
• Epic EMR experience required
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Unit support staff includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC (most day shifts), a charge nurse (mostly without patient assignment), phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, a resource nurse (as staffing allows), RT (24/7), and hospitalist coverage (24/7, mix of in-person and virtual)
• Telemetry is monitored at the nurses' station and in a central monitoring bunker at a regional facility
• Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours are not met, time must be added to the end of the contract
• Scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle
