Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position requiring telemetry skills and Med/Surg experience, with hematology oncology experience preferred.

Details

• Work setting is a hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unit with a hematology oncology focus
• Patient population includes lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, other non-hematological cancers, and benign hematology conditions
• Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, with a maximum of 1:5
• Shift is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Rotating day/night (D/N) scheduling is possible; shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
• Floating required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
• EMR: Epic
• Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Med/Surg experience required
• Hematology oncology experience preferred but not required
• ONS certification preferred
• Telemetry experience required, including on-unit monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Proficiency with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Experience with feeding tube care and management
• Epic EMR experience
• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation begins with the first week Mon–Fri on day shift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
• Self-scheduling requests are submitted prior to final schedule balancing and posting
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
• No 30-day break between assignments is required when changing representation at this facility (exception applies to Sterile Processing Techs)
