Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring a minimum of 5 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Acute care telemetry unit (2 South) in a hospital setting with 20 private beds
  • Telemetry patient population including post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring needs, and respiratory difficulty
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 for telemetry patients
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; day shift weekends are Saturday and Sunday
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation required covering Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • EMR: Epic (proficiency preferred)
  • Floating may occur to a comparable or lower-acuity unit (telemetry or med/surg); occasional pulls to support boarded patients in the ED or tele patients housed in the ICU
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Point-of-care testing includes blood glucose monitoring via AccuChek glucometer
  • Nurses are expected to place IVs, reconstitute antibiotics, and may manage titrating heparin drips
  • Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available for travelers
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
  • Comfort with basic dysrhythmia recognition and telemetry strip interpretation required
  • Driver's license required for consideration, with an address more than 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of required education modules and shadowing on day one, a supervised orientation shift on day two, and independent practice beginning on the third shift
  • On the first day, the RN should report to the corporate center for a badge and parking pass before proceeding to the unit
  • 2 PCTs are staffed for the 20-bed unit and assist with ambulation, vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, bathing, I&O documentation, feeding, turning, and shared Q2-hour rounding
  • A designated charge nurse is available; with full staffing, the charge nurse is out of the patient assignment to support the unit
  • A unit-based pharmacist is available 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, 5 days a week, with 24/7 main pharmacy coverage
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; no ventilators are on the unit
  • Monitor techs are located on the 6th floor and monitor telemetry throughout the hospital, notifying the assigned nurse of any concerns
  • At least one covering hospitalist is available 24/7
  • Travelers may occasionally be asked to take on charge or preceptor responsibilities based on comfort level; this is always discussed in advance and never mandatory
  • EKG testing is required for this unit
  • Navy blue scrubs are required; nurses are responsible for providing their own
  • Candidates must not have worked at any WVU Medicine location within the past 2 years, and cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities may not exceed one year before a 2-year break is required
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
  • Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
