Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a Level III facility in Nebraska, requiring a minimum of 3 years of NICU experience and active NRP certification, with night shift scheduling and float responsibilities to Mother-Baby and L&D units.

Details

  • Level III high-risk NICU in an acute care hospital setting with a 27-bed NICU
  • Access to OB Hospitalists, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, and 24/7 anesthesiology support; neonatal transport services available
  • Neonatal patient population including continuous care, intermediate care, intensive care, and multi-system support care levels
  • Patient ratios follow AWHONN/NANN guidelines: 3-4 patients for continuous care, 2-3 for intermediate care, 1-2 for intensive care, 1 for multi-system support care
  • Ventilator and central line management are routine aspects of this role
  • Charting system: MEDITECH
  • 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM–7:00 AM or 6:30 PM–7:00 AM (facility runs 6:30–19:00 or 18:30–07:00)
  • Every other weekend requirement; generally expect every third weekend and holiday coverage, with potential for more if needed
  • 2 extra shifts required per 6-week period
  • Floating required to Mother-Baby or L&D to care for newborns as baby/transition nurse; rare float to house as safety advocate or task nurse
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Active BLS and NRP certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 3 years of NICU experience required
  • Experience with ventilators and central lines required
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates may not be currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • Orientation includes a pass/fail, open-book skills exam; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure may result to contract termination
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
  • Holiday coverage is generally expected on a rotating basis
