Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.
Details
- Acute care hospital ICU setting with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16 patients
- Level II Trauma Center
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- Adult nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitor brand used with tele tech oversight
- Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator management
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour day shifts (0630–1830)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Floating may be required to PCU (1:4 ratio) or occasionally Med/Surg (1:5 ratio)
- On-call obligations require a 30-minute arrival time if called back in
- Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period must be covered
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Epic EMR experience
- Candidate must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist with 1:1 sits or floor support; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630)
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift; a pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation and requires a score of 90% or higher to pass
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
- Scrubs or dress code details not specified, but fingernail policy is strictly enforced
- RTO must be submitted upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract are permitted, and additional RTO will not be approved
- Block scheduling is not approved unless weekend-only blocks; self-scheduling applies to core staff with travelers added in
- Local candidates are accepted; local pay rates may vary
