Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, with a focus on neurological patient care on 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting, with a daily census of 42 patients across 43 beds
• Primary patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); travelers are not typically assigned to EMU unless trained
• Patient ratio is 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), working 36 or 48 hours per week
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend
• Floating is required to other Med/Surg Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units; frequent floating may be required
• EMR systems used: Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
• 13-week contract with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Med/Surg neuro experience required
• Proficiency in IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Current certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying (first-time travelers not accepted)
• Must pass an EKG assessment prior to start

Additional Information

• Orientation is 36 hours
• Navy scrubs required
• RTO requests after booking are not permitted; call-outs or missed shifts may need to be made up the same week or at the end of the contract
• Missed weekend shifts must be made up based on unit needs
• If RTO includes weekends, additional time will be added to the end of the contract to cover those dates
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Local candidates are accepted
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years will be required for consideration
