Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/MS Float position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic medical center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort working across all PCU and MS units.
Details
- Float position covering all PCU and Medical-Surgical units within a large acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, with the potential to float 2–3 times per shift
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with the potential to flex up to 7:1
- Patient population includes telemetry, stepdown, cardiovascular (pre/post cardiac cath), and general medical-surgical cases
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday worked required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum experience in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU, DOU, or IMC) required
- Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titrating cardiac drips required
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
- Skilled in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP) required
- Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) required
- Ability to manage PCA and heparin protocols, administer IV insulin, and handle endocrine/metabolic conditions required
- Ability to respond to emergencies via Rapid Response and Code teams required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Must be comfortable working across ALL PCU and MS units within the facility
- All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
- Two professional references required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; a radius rule applies to determine eligibility
- Affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, offering an academic teaching hospital environment
- Facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
