Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a combined ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed unit at a critical access rural hospital, requiring 2 years of experience and certifications including ACLS, PALS, and TNCC.

• Critical access hospital in a rural setting with a 25-bed unit
• Combined ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed department
• Patient population includes geriatric patients with dementia, diabetes, chronic illness exacerbations, post-surgical rehab, trauma, and wound care
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:8 using a team nursing model
• RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips including electrolytes, antihypertensives, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
• Patient-managed CPAP is the primary RT equipment; RNs are not required to manage RT equipment beyond troubleshooting
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM–7:15 AM or 6:45 AM–7:15 PM)
• Every other weekend requirement
• Alternating holiday coverage, typically every other holiday
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float between ER and MedSurg

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
• Experience with geriatric patient care, including dementia, stroke, and skin care
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates may not be currently or have been within the past year directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Additional Information

• Provide emergency, medical-surgical, and swing bed nursing care to a largely geriatric rural patient population
• A charge nurse is present on every shift and carries a team assignment rather than individual patient assignments
• CNA/nurse aides are present on each shift to support care delivery
• 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• Block scheduling is available but must be requested in advance
• RTO of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point
• No specific scrub color required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
