Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level II trauma facility, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a hospital setting with a Level II trauma designation
- 35-bed unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; nursing aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- BSN is not required
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify residence address
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of one week of onboarding followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to continue the contract
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- This is a fast-paced unit where a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and the ability to problem-solve are key to success
