Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and an NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 27-bed Medical Telemetry unit at a 109-bed, non-trauma, non-teaching community hospital designated as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center
- Common patient diagnoses include stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed
- Standard RN patient ratio is 1:5-6 (acuity dependent); surge conditions may increase ratios to 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates who are not willing to float to all facilities in the region should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Unit support includes CNAs, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 respiratory therapy (RT), 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and telemetry monitoring technicians; charge nurse may or may not carry a patient assignment; unit receptionist/HUC available on day shift only
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Required skills include stroke experience and NIH assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc.)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- A clinical interview is required for this position
- Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any hours missed due to approved time off must be made up by extending the contract
- Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
- Navy blue scrubs required

- First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
