Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a community hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a willingness to float within a regional hospital system.

Details

• Work in a 27-bed Medical Telemetry unit with an average census of 20 patients
• Hospital setting with 109 licensed beds, no trauma designation, and no teaching residents or students
• Designated Advanced Primary Stroke Center
• Common patient diagnoses include stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed
• RN patient ratio is 1:5–6 (acuity dependent); surge staffing may increase ratios to 1:7–8
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating is required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license (currently in hand) required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care and NIH assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
• Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit is described as positive and team-driven
• Department support includes CNAs, a daytime receptionist/HUC, charge nurses (who may or may not carry a patient assignment), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and telemetry monitoring technicians; no dedicated IV/VAT team
• Orientation consists of a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Scheduling is done in 6-week cycles
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Free parking is available on site
• First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
• Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
• A clinical interview is required for this position
