Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience and proficiency with circulatory support devices.

Details

  • Work in a 22-bed Cardiovascular ICU with an average daily census of 20 patients
  • Surgical and medical cardiac critical care unit caring for patients with cardiovascular diagnoses including post-op CABG, valve replacement/repair, thoracic aortic aneurysms, Impella, and IABP management
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:2; CNA support at 1:20
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, with 48 standard hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to cover 75% of holidays
  • Floating required to other critical care units, with ratios of 1:3 (PCU) and 1:4 (MS)
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and NxStage CRRT
  • Level 1 Trauma facility and academic medical center setting
  • Intensivist and RT available 24/7 within the CVICU

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in post-cardiac assessment, circulatory support device management (IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO), vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medication titration, cardiac waveform interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • A clinical interview with the unit manager is required
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have CVICU experience
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • Orientation consists of approximately one week of general (NEO) orientation followed by 2–3 days of departmental orientation
  • CNA support covers ADLs, blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, and transport; 24-hour receptionist support is available on the unit
  • Unit culture is described as high acuity and fast-paced
  • Required scrub color for nurses is royal blue
  • No on-call or call-back responsibilities
