Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 13-week NICU night shift contract in El Paso, TX, requiring at least 1 year of NICU experience and current NRP certification.

Details

  • Located in a hospital NICU on the 3rd floor, featuring a unique combination of private rooms, semi-private rooms, and pod-style care areas
  • 35-bed unit with a staff of 51 nursing professionals
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 4:1, staffed by acuity
  • Neonatal patient population requiring ventilator management, IV fluid therapy including TPN, feeding support, and thermoregulation
  • Equipment used includes GE Giraffe Omnibeds, Hospira IV pumps, and Medfusion feeding and medication pumps
  • EMR systems used: Meditech and Centricity Perinatal (CPN)
  • Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Weekend availability required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active TX RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
  • Current NRP certification (Advanced 9th Edition, American Academy of Pediatrics card required)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent NICU experience required
  • Proficiency with feeding pumps, IV pumps, medication titration, medication administration, and ventilator management
  • Ability to manage assignments of up to 4 patients simultaneously
  • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference required
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include physical assessment, vital signs, diapering, bottle and tube feedings, breastfeeding assistance, medication administration, IV fluid therapy management, and collaboration with respiratory therapy for respiratory support
  • Experience with Infant Driven Feedings and working with therapy service lines is preferred
  • STABLE course completion is a plus
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • The unit is approaching 300 days CLABSI-free and recorded zero in-house NICU mortalities in 2023
  • Scrub color requirement: Galaxy Blue or Royal Blue
  • The team is described as hardworking and welcoming to traveling staff
