Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring a WV or compact RN license, EPIC experience, and night shift availability.

Details

  • Acute care telemetry unit in a hospital setting
  • PCU/Telemetry unit spanning two floors with a combined 42 beds (private and semi-private rooms)
  • Patient population includes elevated troponin, active chest pain, pre/post cardiac catheterization with and without intervention, post-STEMI (after ICU recovery), NSTEMI, peritoneal dialysis, pacemakers, occasional post-surgical, and oncology overflow patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on both day and night shifts
  • Cardiac drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin per protocol, and Nitroglycerin (set-rate drips only — no titrating drips)
  • Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow O2 managed by RT
  • Philips Cardiac Monitors with central monitoring station; nurses review and document telemetry strips every 4 hours in EPIC
  • EMR: EPIC
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week
  • Rotating weekends (Friday/Saturday nights every other weekend)
  • Rotating holiday coverage based on unit needs
  • Floating is rare but may occur to ICU overflow, Tele, or Ortho/Med-Surg
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Telemetry or PCU nursing experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • EKG testing required for consideration (pass/fail)
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration
  • COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested

Additional Information

  • Nurses are responsible for reviewing and documenting telemetry strips and rhythms every 4 hours directly in EPIC
  • Charge nurse coverage varies — some shifts have a float charge between floors, others have a dedicated charge nurse per floor who carries a full patient assignment
  • PCT support is typically 3 per floor when fully staffed, though coverage may be reduced
  • Hospitalist, RT, and pharmacy are all in-house 24/7; pharmacy is also on the unit during day shift (Omnicell)
  • No IV team on site — nurses are responsible for IV access
  • 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation depending on experience
  • Opportunities for precepting and charge nurse roles
  • Scrub color: navy blue; jacket must be navy or white; undershirt must be white or navy; natural hair color required; tattoos that may be considered distasteful must be covered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before returning
  • Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year must take a 2-year break before reapplying
