Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-volume, fast-paced Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and familiarity with high-acuity obstetrical care.
Details
- Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit with 20 rooms and an integrated obstetrical triage unit
- High-volume unit averaging 20 births and 30–40 admissions per 24-hour period, with approximately 40 patient visits per day — experience in a setting with 300+ births per month is required
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for all intrapartum care, high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients, and select high-risk patients under 16 weeks on the high-risk maternity unit
- Procedures performed include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
- Double labor assignments occur on a daily basis on this unit
- EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Schedule: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float required as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
- No on-call requirement
- 13-week minimum contract length; contracts up to 26 weeks are accepted
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
- Experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting with 300+ births per month required
- Current certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
- Proficiency in OR circulating, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care required
- Experience circulating in the OR strongly preferred
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

- This is a high-acuity, fast-paced unit that may be challenging for less experienced travelers — candidates should be comfortable in a demanding clinical environment
- Provides comprehensive intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum care including triage and outpatient obstetrical procedures
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs are provided (blue)
- Local candidates are accepted
- First-time travelers will be considered, provided they have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site — any call-offs or additional time-off requests may result in contract cancellation
