Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Shock Trauma PACU position requiring strong ICU experience, an MD state RN license, and availability for alternating day/night shifts with on-call responsibilities.
Details
- Shock Trauma PACU at a major academic medical center, a 12-bay unit operating 24/7, 365 days a year
- Specializes in peri-anesthesia care for traumatic injury management, serving both outpatients and inpatients undergoing scheduled or emergency surgery across more than 20 surgical and procedural services
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
- 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Unit also supports procedural space and patient overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit, extending beyond traditional peri-anesthesia care
- Alternating shift schedule: days 7:00–19:00 and nights 19:30–7:30 (straight nights may be considered)
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period required
- On-call required: 1–2 twelve-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule (7:00–19:30 and 19:00–7:30 windows)
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required within the specialty, to other units, and to sister facilities within scope
- 12-week contract
Requirements
- Active MD state RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Strong ICU experience required
- Competency required in vasopressor titration, airway management, care of ventilated patients, blood product administration, and fluid resuscitation
- PACU or peri-anesthesia nursing experience required
Additional Information
- This is not a traditional PACU — nurses are expected to function with ICU-level clinical flexibility in a high-acuity trauma environment
- The unit supports the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center mission, including care for patients requiring emergency surgical intervention
- Pre- and post-operative care is provided to both scheduled and emergent surgical patients
- Time-off requests must be disclosed at time of initial consideration
