Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care (IMC) Neuro Stepdown position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency, with a strong preference for neurological nursing background.

Details

  • Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) within a hospital setting, sub-specialized in neurological and medical intermediate patient populations
  • Patient diagnoses include CVA, intracranial bleeds, aneurysms and repair, craniotomy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, seizure disorders, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, lumbar drains, and substance withdrawal
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 with a maximum unit census of 24 patients
  • 12-hour day shifts, 06:45–19:15, with 48-hour weeks available
  • Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks
  • Floating required to other intermediate areas (e.g., 6A, 5A PCTU, 5C Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care (ICU/Stepdown) as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR
  • Contract length: 13–26 weeks

Requirements

  • Active RN license in NC or a compact state currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; neuro experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry settings required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Cardiovascular skills required: TR Band
  • Endocrine/metabolic skills required: IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
  • Gastrointestinal skills required: feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/renal skills required: continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
  • IV therapy skills required: blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, peripheral line care/management, and starting and maintaining IVs
  • Medication skills required: heparin protocols, PCA, thrombolytic agents, titration of cardiac drips, and titration of vasoactive drips (including Levophed/LEVO)
  • Neurological skills required: aneurysms and repair, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury
  • Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care/management, and non-invasive airway management
  • Additional required skills: surgical drain management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Must be able to titrate Levophed (LEVO)
  • Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
  • Preferred skills: port access/management, phlebotomy, triage, ICP monitoring, conscious sedation, and charge nurse experience

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Orientation consists of 32 hours total: an 8-hour computer class plus two on-unit orientation shifts following initial hospital orientation
  • Scrubs are not provided; required attire is any combination of navy blue and white
  • RTO (time off requests) after booking are not permitted and cannot be arranged onsite — call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • Call-off policy is strictly enforced
  • A teamwork-oriented approach and professional conduct in all patient and staff interactions are required
  • An interview with the hiring manager is required before an offer will be extended; candidates should be prepared to provide availability for an interview within 72 hours of submission
  • 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years are required for consideration
  • NC State Board of Nursing license verification and NURSYS verification are required for consideration
