Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, working 12-hour night shifts with a weekend rotation requirement.

- 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases (fractures, head trauma, osteomyelitis), post-op surgical patients, and patients with acute or chronic conditions including CHF, diabetes, hypertension, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, with LPN and CNA support on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; Med dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Philips
- Specialized equipment includes telemetry monitors, Glucommander, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, chest tubes, external fixators, JP and Hemovac drains, and portable vital signs monitors
Requirements
- Active RN license — Georgia (GA) or Compact license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- ACLS preferred
- Medical-surgical or nephrology nursing national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
- Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrating drips for heart rate (not blood pressure)
- Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide complex med/surg and telemetry nursing care to orthopedic, trauma, post-op, and chronic disease patient populations
- Telemetry monitoring is supported by a Central Telemetry Unit
- Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7a–11p), house-wide call secretary (11p–7a), charge nurse, phlebotomy, PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage expected — travelers work one shift per major holiday (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- RTO requests require manager approval
- Scrub color: Navy for RNs
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; the same rate is offered to local travelers at this GA facility
