Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

- 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital that also serves as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases (fractures, head trauma/hemorrhage, osteomyelitis), post-op surgical patients, and those with acute or chronic conditions and common med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN patient ratio of 1:4–6 per shift
- 12-hour day or night shifts, 7a–7p or 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all adult med-surg and telemetry units within the hospital
- EMR: Epic (experience noted)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP and Hemovac drains, and portable vital signs monitors
Requirements
- Active RN license — Georgia (GA) or Compact license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- ACLS preferred
- Medical-surgical or nephrology nursing national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Strong clinical assessment skills appropriate for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate HR (not BP)
- Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education with emphasis on renal and fluid management
- Unit support includes CNAs (vitals, glucose checks, ambulation, transport), a unit secretary 7a–11p with house-wide call secretary overnight, a charge nurse, PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, central telemetry monitoring, and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Phlebotomy is lab-collected on most units; nurses draw from central venous lines (CVLs)
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage expected — travelers are required to work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- Time off requests require manager approval
- RN scrub color: Navy

- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
